Bocas Yacht Services Boatyard (Almirante)

9° 16.9′ N · 82° 23.0′ W · approximate

The region's only haul-out: a 60-ton travel lift beside Almirante where you can do your own bottom job or hand it to the yard crew.

Practical

Position approximate — last waypoint (RF2AL7, 09°16.9252'N, 082°23.0087'W) of a 2019 cruiser route from Red Frog Marina to the yard; the yard is just outside Almirante town, about 10 minutes by water taxi (Noonsite). 60-ton travel lift, maximum beam 20 ft; full-service or do-it-yourself; live aboard on the hard; workshop with heavy bench and vise; chandlery with bottom paints; mechanics, painter and surveyor available; showers and Wi-Fi (Noonsite, 2014–2019). No stainless or carpentry resources reported. Shore power only Mon–Fri 8am–4pm; challenging access and lots of insects (noforeignland). Same management as Bocas Marina; Ocean Posse (2026) quoted travel-lift discounts for rally boats. Contact: WhatsApp +507 6619-5601, bocasyachtservices@yahoo.com (yard website). Book ahead. The yard's own site lists crane service up to 60 tons and a telescopic 15-ton crane, dry storage, paint, mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, survey and mast and rigging work, and markets Bocas as a 'hurricane safe zone' (bocasboatyard.com). For hurricane-season storage, Bocas is south of the main tracks but not immune: Tropical Storm Martha (1969) flooded at least half the farmland around Almirante. Ask the yard about stands and tie-downs, strip windage, and confirm that your insurer accepts storage here (see Hurricane Season in Bocas).
