Almirante (mainland port & town)

9° 17.3′ N · 82° 23.7′ W

The old United Fruit banana port on the mainland: no tourist charm, but the archipelago's road head, its boatyard, cheaper groceries and diesel, and the water-taxi link to Bocas Town.

Practical

Harbour position 09°17.31'N, 082°23.70'W (Noonsite). Commercial port with little suitable anchoring for yachts other than near the haul-out (Noonsite). Supermarkets 10–20% cheaper than Bocas; several hardware shops and three chandleries stocking screws, bottom paint, impellers and rollers (Noonsite cruiser reports 2019). Hotel 888 (about US$25–30/night in 2015 — verify locally); Tsunami restaurant recommended nearby. Buses to David (about 4 hours) and Changuinola; water taxis to Bocas Town about 20–35 minutes, US$6 one-way in 2023 (Wikivoyage; Visit Panama). Built on landfill by United Fruit in the early 1900s; port activity now reduced (Wikipedia).

Best for

Haul-outs, diesel, cheaper provisions and the bus to David
