Blue Lagoon (Blue Hole, Port Antonio)
18° 10.2′ N · 76° 23.9′ W · approximate
A spring-fed lagoon east of Port Antonio that shifts through emerald and jade during the day; fresh water wells up from about 120 ft down and the Brooke Shields film The Blue Lagoon made it famous.
Practical
Coordinate approximate (lagoon centre, inferred from Virgintino's offshore waypoint 18 10.65N, 076 23.43W which lies about one mile NE of the entrance). By boat: the entrance is a narrow channel (about 30 ft) marked with floating bottles, just over 4 ft at low tide; inside it is too deep to anchor (certified to 282 ft). Not for larger boats; get a local guide. Easiest visited by taxi or dinghy from San San. Wikipedia gives the lagoon's depth as about 60 m (200 ft). Swimming allowed (Wikivoyage). Combined Reach Falls + Blue Lagoon tours run from Port Antonio.
