Bloody Bay & Jackson's Point Mooring Rules (Little Cayman)

19° 41.2′ N · 80° 4.5′ W · approximate

The rules for using the public moorings at Bloody Bay Wall, the Mixing Bowl and Jackson's Point. These are Marine Reserves on Little Cayman's north shore and some of the most protected and most dived water in the Caribbean.

Practical

Coordinate is the DoE 'Blacktip Blvd.' mooring (2023 GPX), used as a nominal point between the Mixing Bowl (Three Fathom Wall, 19.68492N, 080.07800W) and Jackson Reef & Wall (19.69073N, 080.06942W). Rules from the DoE Sister Islands brochure (effective March 12, 2021): Marine Reserve - no taking of any marine life, alive or dead. No anchoring: use fixed moorings only. Boats of 60 ft or less may anchor in sand only, with no grappling hook or kellick, and neither anchor nor rope nor chain may touch coral. Bloody Bay has no commercial operations without a permit, and operators' licences cap passengers, vessels and time on moorings. The public moorings are 18 and 24 inch white buoys with a yellow stripe and yellow pick-up line, free to use. 18-inch buoys are for vessels up to 60 ft and 24-inch up to 100 ft. Do not use them in 25 knots or more. Limit each stay to 3 hours or less, never leave the boat unattended, and you are responsible for checking the mooring. No fish or shark feeding, no gloves while diving or snorkelling, and no taking anything while on scuba. Spawning Aggregation Overlay Zones elsewhere on the island close to scuba without permission. Report damaged moorings to the DoE on 949-8469; report offences on Little Cayman to 925-0185. Penalties run up to a CI$500,000 fine and four years in jail, plus forfeiture of the vessel. Overnight: anchor in South Hole Sound, not on the wall moorings.
