Sumner Point Marina (Rum Cay, closed: entrance silted)

23° 38.2′ N · 74° 50.0′ W · approximate

The former marina basin behind Sumner Point at Port Nelson, once Rum Cay's only dockage; its harbour entrance has silted shut and the site has been listed for sale, so treat it as unavailable and anchor off Port Nelson instead.

Practical

STATUS: not operating as a cruiser marina. Noonsite (March 2017) reported the marina had silted up and was blocked by a substantial sand bar, leaving anchoring as the only option; a Coldwell Banker Commercial sale listing (last updated October 2021) describes it as a former marina whose harbour entrance 'needs to be reopened', with a 12 ft low-tide control depth in the inner basin and room for about 50 boats. The marina's own site still advertises about 20 slips, fuel, power, water, wifi, cottages and a restaurant, and Wikivoyage repeats that list: do not rely on it without phoning ahead (rumcaymarina.com). No fuel dock should be assumed on Rum Cay. Position is approximate, at the OSM-mapped piers behind Sumner Point. Dive and fishing trips to the Conqueror wreck and Grand Canyon were historically run from here (Sail Abacos).
