Port Nelson settlement
23° 39.0′ N · 74° 50.5′ W
Rum Cay's only village - fewer than 100 residents (90 in the 2022 census), quirky island-shaped street signs, and a square named for Sir Milo Butler, the first Bahamian Governor-General, who was born here.
Practical
Provisioning is minimal: Wikivoyage lists groceries at the Last Chance Yacht Supply; Cruising World (2023) quoted a dozen eggs at $8 and frozen green beans at $6 (prices verify locally). Arrive with full stores. The government dock is served by the mail boat about three times a month (Cruising World), which is when fresh goods arrive. Post office in the Government Building (Noonsite); the BTC (Batelco) office closes at lunchtime (Wikivoyage). No bank listed in any source - bring cash. Rum Cay Medical Center is the government clinic.
Best for
Topping up basics, a walk and a cold drink ashore
