Salt Pond settlement
23° 20.7′ N · 75° 7.5′ W
A small, spread-out settlement on the Queen's Highway that serves the Thompson Bay anchorage, home of the Long Island Regatta and of the island's best-stocked grocery and marine stores.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap village node. Wikipedia gives Salt Pond's population as 98. Within walking distance of the Thompson Bay dinghy landings: Hillside Grocery, a liquor store, Seafarer Marine Supply, Long Island Petroleum, the Saturday farmers' market, Vantage Pointe restaurant and car rentals. Cruisers walk across the island past the big salt pond to the Atlantic beach (often covered in sea-borne plastic). There is a bat cave a short walk from the dinghy dock (bring headlamps; watch for holes in the cave floor).
Best for
Provisioning walks and the island's cruiser hub
