Morgan's Bluff Anchorage
25° 10.6′ N · 78° 1.6′ W
A large cove at Andros's northern tip with beaches on its south side, sitting at the head of the Tongue of the Ocean; the usual landfall and clearance stop for boats arriving from the Berry Islands, Bimini or Florida.
Practical
Position from ActiveCaptain ('Morgan's Bluff - Rustic Hideaway'). Anchor in about 6 ft over sand with good holding (ActiveCaptain; noforeignland rates it 4.4 for holding and some wind protection). Good in south and east winds; ActiveCaptain warns it is dangerous in a north wind, when the harbour wall is the place to be. The SW side near the harbour is scoured and holding there is poor. The channel markers shown on charts are gone (reported 2016 to 2024): the entrance is wide and deep, so follow the charted channel in daylight. Dinghy into the commercial harbour and tie to the floating dinghy dock on the west side, watching for underwater lines and exposed rebar. Free water in the harbour. Good BTC cell signal. Nicholls Town is about a 3-mile dinghy ride or a short taxi/hitchhike south. Mosquitoes and biting flies reported (noforeignland).
Best for
Clearing in at the north end of Andros and waiting for weather to cross to the Berries or Bimini
Season
Best Nov-May in E-S winds; leave or move into the harbour before a norther
