Snorkel· Mangrove Cay· Bahamas — Eleuthera, Andros & the Out Islands
Middle Bight Ocean Blue Hole (north of Gibson Cay)
24° 19.9′ N · 77° 41.0′ W
An ocean blue hole about 100 ft off the beach just north of Gibson Cay, ringed by beautiful coral and pouring out cold water with a tremendous flow.
Practical
Position from a cruiser's waypoint (24-19.891 N, 77-41.015 W) posted on the ActiveCaptain Middle Bight listing and in the Geoff Schultz log (June 2006). At low tide the outflow ran several knots, too strong to snorkel; they nosed the dinghy into it instead. Time the visit near slack water and be especially careful of inflowing current, which can pull a swimmer in. Depth not stated.
Best for
An adventurous dinghy-and-snorkel at slack water
Season
