Gibson Cay Blue Hole (Middle Bight)
24° 19.8′ N · 77° 40.9′ W · approximate
A roughly 100-ft-wide blue hole on rocky Gibson Cay at the mouth of Middle Bight, ringed with parrotfish, snapper and damselfish and a strange bright-blue branching alga.
Practical
Position approximate: OpenStreetMap's point for Gibson Cay itself; the hole lies on the cay near its northwest side, beside the Middle Bight anchorage (ActiveCaptain 2010 review; Geoff Schultz log, June 2006). Depth estimated at 40 to 60 ft by that cruiser (a guess). Land the dinghy and walk across with snorkel gear: the cay is sharp, honeycombed limestone pitted with 2- to 6-inch holes, so wear shoes. Noforeignland lists 'Gibson Cay Blue Hole' as good snorkelling in settled conditions.
Best for
