Andros horse flies and mosquitoes (summer)
24° 19.9′ N · 77° 41.2′ W · approximate
Andros's creeks, mangroves and bights breed horse flies, mosquitoes and no-see-ums that can make warm-season anchorages miserable.
Practical
Position approximate: placed at Middle Bight, where reports are most consistent. noforeignland reviews report horse flies in warmer months at Middle Bight and South Bight and mosquitoes and biting flies at Morgan's Bluff. ActiveCaptain: biting horse flies by day at Cross Cay in April; fewer flies at South Bight than Middle Bight; a Lisbon Creek crew moved out to the bay for fear of bugs when the wind dropped. Screens, repellent and anchoring further off in a breeze help.
