Middle Bight Anchorage

24° 19.9′ N · 77° 41.2′ W

A calm, quiet anchorage in the mouth of Middle Bight, the channel separating North Andros from Mangrove Cay, with blue holes to explore and strong tidal flow.

Practical

Position from ActiveCaptain. Anchor at the end of the cay next to the AUTEC mooring buoy in about 8 ft of sand with great holding. The current reverses and keeps flowing out for about 2 hours after low water even as the level rises, so you will lie to the tide. A January 2026 review found three mooring balls with no pennants (pick up the side of the ball that does not lead to the bottom; ownership and fees unknown). Hiking to blue holes; horse flies in warmer months (noforeignland, rated 4.0). Visibility in the blue holes better than at South Bight (ActiveCaptain).

Best for

A quiet bight anchorage for blue holes and dinghy exploring
