Meeks Patch East Anchorage

25° 30.9′ N · 76° 46.8′ W

The lee side of Meeks Patch for south to west winds, a deep-sand anchorage cruisers use to swap sides as fronts clock through.

Practical

2-4 m (6-13 ft) MLW over deep sand, great holding; the NE side also held well in soft sand (8 ft at low tide, 2024 review). One reviewer rode out a front with 35 kn from S through NW here without trouble (2018). Tour boats bring visitors to the southern cove beach when winds are S-W, so expect fast boats. The small island to the SE has two picnic areas; snorkelling on the SE reefs is modest (small scattered corals and juvenile fish). Easy to shuttle between here, the Russell Island anchorages and The Bluffs as the wind shifts.

Best for

Frontal passages with S-W-NW winds near Spanish Wells

Season

S through W winds
