Spanish Wells West Anchorage (Russell Island south shore)

25° 32.3′ N · 76° 45.9′ W

The popular open-roadstead anchorage off the south side of Russell Island, between the power plant and the western (south) harbour entrance — a short dinghy ride into town.

Practical

6-8 ft, sand. Waterway Guide: sheltered only from the north (NW-NE) and exposed in all other directions, but comfortable in most winds under 20 kn. Expect wakes from fishing boats, ferries and tour boats using the harbour entrance. Shore access difficult on Russell Island itself; take the dinghy into the harbour and land in town. Good cell coverage.

Best for

Anchoring within dinghy range of Spanish Wells in northerly winds

Season

Best in N to NE winds; move to Meeks Patch in strong E-SE
