Love Beach and Rock Pools (Stella Maris Atlantic shore)
23° 34.8′ N · 75° 15.0′ W · approximate
A string of small pocket beaches and natural rock pools on the Atlantic shore below the Stella Maris cliffs, the northernmost with a large natural swimming pool protected from the ocean except in severe weather.
Practical
Position is approximate: a point on the OpenStreetMap Atlantic coastline about 1.3 km south-east of the Moonshine Bar, derived from the Beaches of Long Island directions (turn at the Stella Maris airport sign, go straight to the shore road, turn right for the Tidal Pool, the Rock Pools and the Love Beaches). Stella Maris Resort lists Love Beach for 'a large natural swimming pool completely protected except in severe weather' and its own Atlantic beach for rock nature pools and a boardwalk to Erna's Natural Pool. The guide (2018) says the paths to the Rock Pools and the northernmost Love Beach are well marked and maintained; the three beaches further south need good shoes over the rock bluffs, and the southernmost can also be reached by a long, rough track from Millerton opposite Alfred's bakery. These are open Atlantic beaches: swim only in the pools or on calm days. A tidal pool lies beside the Moonshine Bar & Grill. Visit by car or bike from Stella Maris Marina; this coast is not approachable by boat.
