Long Island east-coast Atlantic beaches

23° 35.4′ N · 75° 15.6′ W · approximate

The windward Atlantic shore of Long Island: steep headlands and cliffs alternating with secluded coves, natural rock pools and pink-tinged sand, with coral shelves, turtles and eagle rays close in.

Practical

Position is approximate, at the Stella Maris Atlantic beach near the Moonshine Bar (OpenStreetMap). Stella Maris lists Love Beach (six secluded beaches and a big natural pool protected except in severe weather), five more beaches a short hike south, and Millerton's School Beach. Bahamas.com notes pink sands and natural pools at Stella Maris. By boat this coast is a lee shore to avoid: Boattest/Waterway Guide advises giving it a wide berth, so visit by car. Swim only in calm conditions.
