Long Cay (Fortune Island) East Anchorage

22° 33.8′ N · 74° 21.4′ W

A shallow, sandy anchorage on the Bight of Acklins side of Long Cay's southern end, behind the island from the Crooked Island Passage, with a palm-and-coconut beach ashore; cruisers use it to hide from westerly winds when the lee-side anchorages turn rough.

Practical

noforeignland position N 22°33.775' W 074°21.422', sand in about 10 ft, good holding. Safe in strong westerlies, but reviewers report an uncomfortable side roll when the tidal current opposes the wind. Approach over the shallow banks in good light; there are no services, and the nearest people are at Albert Town to the north.

Best for

Westerly-wind shelter during a cold front

Season

Front shelter (W–NW); E-side, so exposed in strong easterlies
