Anchorage· Eleuthera· Bahamas — Eleuthera, Andros & the Out Islands

Current Settlement and Current Island Anchorage

25° 24.7′ N · 76° 47.4′ W

The anchorage off the beach north of Current Cut at The Current, Eleuthera's oldest settlement — the place to wait for slack water before the cut and to dinghy ashore to the village.

Practical

6-10 ft; tide 2-2.5 ft; good holding in sand. Protection E through SE (Waterway Guide lists NE-SE). Beach the dinghy at the south end of the beach and follow the dirt road over the hill to town; the rest of the beach is private. In the village: Durham's General Store, an old Methodist church and a post office doubling as library; public dock by the ferry terminal. Good cell coverage.
