Crooked/Acklins limited comms and supplies

22° 48.2′ N · 74° 20.3′ W · approximate

Crooked Island, Long Cay and Acklins are among the most thinly served cruising grounds in the Bahamas: one marina, no chandlery or haul-out, no visitor cash access, clinics staffed by a single nurse, and provisions tied to a weekly mailboat that often runs late.

Practical

Position approximate (Landrail Point). Arrive full of fuel, water, propane, cash (no ATM or cash advance for visitors), spares and medicines. Diesel, gasoline and RO water are at Crooked Island Marina (dawn to dusk); otherwise jerry cans via locals. noforeignland: mobile data can be intermittent, so satellite communications are a good choice; cruisers report good Aliv/BTC data at Landrail Point, Fortune Island West, Fish Cay, Sugar Bay and even Castle Island, but nothing reliable at Samana or the Plana Cays. Download weather by satellite before committing to the reef entrances. Nearest full services: George Town (Exuma), Providenciales (Turks and Caicos) or Nassau.
