Cold-front season (Rock Sound and Hatchet Bay refuges)
24° 53.1′ N · 76° 11.3′ W
From November to April, cold fronts sweep through every week or so, clocking the wind south, west and north; on Eleuthera's west-facing Bight coast that means moving to Rock Sound or Hatchet Bay before each one.
Practical
Position is Rock Sound North anchorage (ActiveCaptain), the sound's best spot as winds clock south-west through north. Strategy from cruiser reports: in Rock Sound use the settlement anchorage in easterlies, Poison Point in southerlies, Rock Sound West or North as the wind goes west and north; Hatchet Bay is all-round shelter further north. Governor's Harbour, Alabaster Bay, Ten Bay and Tarpum Bay are exposed to the west. Listen to the morning VHF cruisers' net in Rock Sound for weather and supply-boat news.
