Between the Raggeds Anchorage

22° 10.4′ N · 75° 42.8′ W

The cut between Ragged Island and Little Ragged is the best all-round shelter in the chain: about 10 ft, little current, a beautiful beach on the south side and coral full of lobster on the outer reef.

Practical

Enter at or near high water (see 'Between the Raggeds entrance' passage for waypoints); a 5 ft 4 in draft saw no less than 6.4 ft at about high tide (May 2026), another crew saw 2.1 m minimum on a 0.66 m tide, and a catamaran (2021) said boats drawing 5 ft or less can go in and out at high tide. Very protected in most prevailing winds; noforeignland rates it 5.0 and calm even in strong easterlies. Ten boats sheltered here during one front (MV Privateer). Great holding, a sand flat for bocce on the beach. Good Aliv signal. The outer reef is sharky: do not clean fish on the boat. A private mooring belongs to a resident trawler. Short dinghy ride to the beach by 'the house with the airplane on the roof', then a long walk to Duncan Town; the dump is a short walk. A harmless Bahamian boa has been met on the beach.
