West End settlement conch stands, take-outs and bars

26° 41.1′ N · 78° 57.8′ W

The waterfront of Grand Bahama's oldest settlement, where SailAbacos describes cold Kaliks at a local bar and fresh conch salad made dockside. It is the authentic alternative to the resort, a short taxi or bike ride from Old Bahama Bay.

Practical

Position is Waves, a bar mapped in OpenStreetMap as serving 'seafood and cocktails', on the settlement waterfront. Other spots mapped in OpenStreetMap along the settlement road: Ella's Take-Out (26.6842 N / 78.9647 W, take-away), The Porch (bar, 26.6828 N / 78.9621 W), Double Deuce (bar, 26.6762 N / 78.9572 W), Coffee on the Bay (cafe, 26.6935 N / 78.9708 W), Express Food Mart (convenience) and 700 Wines and Spirits. None publish hours or prices, and conch stands open when the catch is in, so ask the marina staff or your taxi driver what is open that day. Cash only is the safe assumption. The settlement is about 2 miles from the marina; the West End Community Clinic and police are here too (2012 cruiser guide: clinic 242-346-6463, police 242-346-6444).
