Water Cay Anchorage (Grand Bahama north shore, shoal draft)

26° 45.7′ N · 78° 31.0′ W · approximate

Water Cay sits on the shallow Little Bahama Bank about 2.5 nm off Grand Bahama's north shore. Southern Boating names it, with Hawksbill Creek, as worth exploring by small boat, and the north side's bonefishing as good as anywhere in The Bahamas.

Practical

Position is derived, not published: a point in open water about 0.2 nm west of Water Cay, placed by testing it against OpenStreetMap coastlines (Water Cay way 763262339; cay centred about 26.762 N / 78.505 W). No guide publishes an anchorage, depths or holding. Southern Boating frames Water Cay as a destination if you tow a speedboat, which suggests keelboats should not count on reaching it. The north shore of Grand Bahama is very shallow bank, so treat this as a reference point for a dinghy or shoal-draft trip, ideally from the Dover Sound end of the Grand Lucayan Waterway. Read the water in good light on a rising tide. No services. Expected lee is to the west of the cay in easterlies; exposed in fronts.
