Wildlife· Manjack (Nunjack) Cay· Bahamas — North

Manjack Cay mangrove creek (rays and turtles)

26° 50.4′ N · 77° 23.0′ W · approximate

Tidal channels through the mangroves at Manjack's north end form a nursery for young fish; drift through by dinghy or kayak and green turtles pop up in the shallows while spotted eagle rays and stingrays glide over the sandbars at the mouth.

Practical

Approximate position at the mangrove inlet, read off the OpenStreetMap outline of the north end; sources place the creek at the north tip and 'behind Rat Cay'. Dinghies get in only near high tide; a kayak works almost any time. Motor or paddle upstream, then drift back out with the current. Slow down and keep clear of turtles; no feeding or touching. Bring water and shade.

Best for

Turtle spotting by kayak or drifting dinghy

Season

Year-round; best on a rising tide
