Coco (Cocoa) Bay Anchorage (Green Turtle Cay)

26° 47.3′ N · 77° 20.3′ W

A quiet bay on the north end of Green Turtle Cay, a short walk from the Green Turtle Club and the Atlantic beaches — the place to escape the bustle of the settlement and the mooring fields in White and Black Sound.

Practical

Waterway Guide waypoint N 26° 47.318' / W 077° 20.294'. 7-10 ft with a 2-2.5 ft tidal range; good holding in sand — keep clear of the many grassy patches. The best spot is abeam of the small point that defines the bay; the farther in you tuck, the better the protection, but the north side of the bay shallows quickly and almost dries at low tide. Fair-weather only: once the wind reaches about 20 knots a swell works in through the cut south of Fiddle Cay, even in an easterly, the most protected direction (Waterway Guide). Marinas.com notes the north-side anchorages are open to the north and have no facilities. Land the dinghy on Coco Bay Beach; fuel, ice, groceries and the restaurant are at the Green Turtle Club in White Sound. Good cell coverage.

Best for

Quiet overnight off a calm family beach in settled east-to-south weather

Season

Settled weather; untenable in northerly winds or swell, rolly above about 20 kn
