Grand Bahama Regatta and Heritage Festival (Taino Beach)
26° 31.2′ N · 78° 37.1′ W · approximate
Grand Bahama's native-sloop regatta, first held in 1993: Bahamian Class A, B and C sloops racing off Taino Beach with junior sailing and sculling races and a heritage festival ashore.
Practical
Position is Taino Beach (existing entry, OpenStreetMap); the Tribune (May 2014) places the 2014 races at Taino Beach on July 18 and 19, with a dedication service the Sunday before at St Nicolas Anglican Church, High Rock. The 2013 regatta was cancelled over unpaid debts from 2012, so the event has not run every year: confirm locally whether and when it is on. A spectator event for visiting yachts; watch from the beach or anchor well clear of the course only in settled weather (Taino Beach is an open south-shore roadstead).
Best for
Bahamian sloop racing and summer festival culture
