DC-3 Wreck (Cistern Cay)
25° 45.9′ N · 77° 53.1′ W
The remains of a DC-3 that crashed in 1983 with a load of marijuana lie in 6-10 ft just off the south end of Cistern Cay, a relic of the Berry Islands' smuggling years and an easy dinghy snorkel.
Practical
ActiveCaptain hazard position. Two to three metres of water; the wreck is covered at high water by only inches, so it is a hazard to dinghies and boats. Much sharp metal around the engine. A 2017 report passed on a marina staffer's warning of a 10-foot bull shark around the wreck. The Great Harbour Cay site lists 'a crashed plane to snorkel near Cistern Cay' among the island's history sights.
