Basin Harbour (Bight of Abaco)

26° 48.0′ N · 77° 29.7′ W

A big, secluded basin on a privately owned cay in the north-east corner of the Bight of Abaco, with bonefish in the shallows and a superb reef dive nearby at Jones Rock.

Practical

ActiveCaptain position. Protected from all but the west. The bottom is broken marl and rock: find a hole to set the point of the anchor, or wrap chain around rock (2016-2018). About 7 ft in the bay, shoaling sooner than the charts suggest; tides in the Bight are hard to estimate. Once in the Bight, depths are generally 12-15 ft or more until you near land (Bamboo Cay report). The cay is private, but nobody bothered visitors; good BTC signal. A 2016 reviewer recommends diving Jones Rock (given as 26°49.40'N, 077°32'W). Pre-Dorian reports.
