Alice Town (North Bimini)

25° 43.5′ N · 79° 17.9′ W · approximate

Bimini's capital and the first Bahamian landfall for most boats out of South Florida: a strip of marinas, conch stands, bars and pastel government buildings along the King's Highway, about 50 nm east of Miami. Hemingway fished the Gulf Stream from here in 1935 to 1937, and the town still runs on sportfishing, Bimini bread and rum.

Practical

Position is the town centre, taken at the site of the Compleat Angler Hotel (Wikipedia coordinates); the settlement runs north into Bailey Town and Porgy Bay. Everything in town is a few minutes' walk from the harbour marinas (Waterway Guide, 2026). Customs is inside the Bimini Big Game Club entrance and Immigration is in the pink Government Administration Building just north (see the port of entry entry). The harbour is a no-wake / idle-speed zone between roughly the South Bimini ferry and the Big Game Club; an ActiveCaptain report (2018) cites a $500 fine for entering too fast, and a May 2025 report describes a dinghy flipped by a speeding boat's wake off the Big Game Club, so cross the channel by dinghy with care and wear a kill cord. Golf carts are the usual way around (Blue Water Resort rents them). There are no pump-out stations on the island (ActiveCaptain). Water taxi to South Bimini runs from the government dock area (see Bimini Water Taxi).
