Fords Terror Outer Anchorage (Endicott Arm)
57° 36.7′ N · 133° 12.0′ W · approximate
Boats and expedition ships often anchor in Endicott Arm just outside the narrow entrance to Fords Terror and run skiffs through at the right moment, rather than taking a larger boat through the narrows. It is the practical base for a Fords Terror visit.
Practical
Position is approximate, in Endicott Arm just outside the mouth of Fords Terror. Endicott Arm is a deep fjord and SailSpo could not confirm depth, holding or a shelf suited to a small yacht (unconfirmed); one cruiser reports a channel on the east side of the outer bay leading to a temporary anchorage. Icebergs drift past. After the August 2025 landslide, boats anchored near Fords Terror felt the water level rise even though the tide was falling (reported by Alaska Public Media; check the current tide and hazard picture). Keep a sound anchor watch.
