Holkham Bay (Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm Entrance)
57° 44.7′ N · 133° 37.5′ W
Holkham Bay is the shared entrance to Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm, on the mainland side of Stephens Passage inside the Tongass National Forest. Icebergs from both fjords drift and ground here, so this is where a trip first meets the ice.
Practical
Coordinate is the USGS place-name (GNIS) position for the bay, via OSM. Large bergs often strand on an underwater moraine near Holkham Bay and break up (Coastview). Kayakers camped on Harbor Island, in the bay, reported their gear swept away by the water surge from the August 2025 Tracy Arm landslide. Anchorages inside the bay are Tracy Arm Cove and Williams Cove (see those entries). Mind ice on approach and in the cove entrances, particularly at night and low light.
Best for
Gateway to the fjords; first look at the ice
