Ziegler Cove and Pigot Bay (Prince William Sound)
60° 50.1′ N · 148° 19.0′ W
Ziegler Cove is a small state marine park on the north shore at the mouth of Pigot Bay, on the west side of Port Wells. A 1983 State Parks document calls it small but very well protected, and a traditionally used pleasure-boat anchorage out of Whittier.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM bay point for Ziegler Cove (a USGS name position). Pigot Bay itself, entered just west, is a separate anchorage area listed by DEC (about 60 deg 50.5 min N, 148 deg 22.5 min W); the DEC plans warn of shoal water with numerous reefs and rocks and of bears at salmon streams. State Parks lists campsites, picnic facilities, a shelter and trails; one site says camping is not available, so confirm (unconfirmed). The state's 1983 write-up predates current charts, so treat depths and layout as unknown and check the chart.
Best for
A very sheltered cove on the way into Port Wells
Season
Summer; bears present in the salmon run
