Thumb Cove State Marine Park (Resurrection Bay)

60° 0.4′ N · 149° 18.3′ W

A scenic, steep-sided cove on the east side of Resurrection Bay with Porcupine Glacier above it and waterfalls tumbling down the walls. State Parks calls it a popular anchorage with protected water, and it is the usual first night out of Seward.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bay point (a USGS name position), not a surveyed anchoring spot. Alaska State Parks puts the cove about nine miles south of Seward. Parks says there are no public mooring buoys or docks anywhere in the Resurrection Bay marine parks and few good all-weather anchorages, that weather changes quickly, and that boat traffic can be varied here. A stream from Porcupine Glacier gives fresh water; there is a toilet at the west end of the beach and two public use cabins (Porcupine Glacier and Spruce Glacier). I found no soundings or holding-ground notes, so check the chart. Smaller boats can be pulled up the beach but must be secured above high tide.
