Humpy Cove (Resurrection Bay)
59° 58.2′ N · 149° 17.9′ W
A whale-tail shaped cove made of two small bays on the east side of the bay, named for the pink salmon that spawn in Humpy Creek. Recreational boaters often anchor here, and a World War II searchlight bunker called the Iron Door is a well-known fishing spot nearby.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM bay point (a USGS name position). Wikipedia gives an average depth of 60 ft and a maximum of at least 300 ft, which would make for deep anchoring close to shore; treat that as unconfirmed and check the chart. A 2014 cruising blog quotes the US Pilot as rating Sunny Cove, or possibly Humpy Cove just beyond it, as the best anchorage in the bay. Alaska State Parks says no public mooring buoys exist in the bay. The cove has the only road on the Resurrection Peninsula, and Orca Island Cabins and Miller's Landing kayak tours operate here. Wikipedia's printed coordinates for the cove are wrong; use the OSM position above.
Best for
Salmon fishing and a quiet anchorage in settled weather
Season
Summer; pink salmon run in late summer
