Harriman Fjord Glaciers (Harriman Fiord)
61° 3.0′ N · 148° 24.0′ W · approximate
A fjord of actively calving tidewater glaciers (Harriman, Surprise, Coxe, Barry and Cascade), with ice-choked water and wildlife. It lies beyond Barry Arm and shares its landslide hazard.
Practical
Position is an open-water waypoint in the fjord, not any glacier face. A paddlers' guide reports heavy berg ice on the outgoing tide, rare strong glacier winds and no VHF coverage in the fjord (older source, unconfirmed). The Barry Arm landslide hazard applies in this fjord; see that entry. I could not confirm a distance rule for glacier faces here, as the NPS half-mile rule applies to Kenai Fjords, not this area (unconfirmed); keep well clear of calving ice.
Best for
Calving glaciers in a quieter fjord, with caution
