Young Island Cut Snorkel

13° 7.9′ N · 61° 12.2′ W · approximate

Clear, sheltered water right off the moorings between Young Island and Villa: slip over the side or swim along Young Island's fringing shore, where the resort beach shelves into reef and sand.

Practical

Coordinate is derived (approx): mid-channel in the cut between the OpenStreetMap beach on Young Island's north shore (about 13.1314 N, 61.2023 W) and Villa Beach (13.1342 N). The National Parks authority describes Young Island Beach as ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving, and the resort calls its surrounding water clear and relatively sheltered. This is a busy mooring field with constant dinghy, water-taxi and resort-ferry traffic: tow a float or flag, stay close to the shoreline and never cross the fairway. The Rock Fort drift dive just south (Fort Duvernette) is for divers with a boat cover, not snorkellers, because of current. Young Island is a private resort, so stay in the water or land only as a dining guest.

Best for

A snorkel straight off the boat at the Young Island moorings

Season

Year-round; murkier and rolly in southerly swell
