Wallilabou Bay Anchorage

13° 14.9′ N · 61° 16.4′ W · approximate

A deep, steep-sided bay on the north-west coast, where the remains of the Port Royal set from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl still stand on the shore. It is the first port of entry for yachts coming south from St Lucia or Martinique.

Practical

Coordinate is the Wikidata/GeoNames point for Wallilabou Bay (approx; Noonsite gives only 13 15'N, 61 17'W). The bay is deep, so most boats take one of the few mooring buoys or anchor and run a stern line to a palm tree ashore. Boat boys will meet you to handle lines: a 2019 Noonsite report paid EC$50 for a stern line ashore, and a 2018 CSSN report cited EC$20 for help onto a mooring (verify locally). Agree the price and get the person's name first, and pay only when done. Prepare lines and the anchor before you arrive, and be polite but firm if you do not want help. The Wallilabou Anchorage restaurant offers water, ice, showers, internet and garbage disposal, and monitors VHF 68. The old film-set dock can surge badly in swell. Security (Noonsite, Jan 2025): there were thefts off the old film dock and burglaries off the Anchorage Hotel; robberies rose after Hurricane Beryl; and the catamaran Simplicity was found poorly anchored here on February 20, 2024, with its owners missing, presumed dead; three escaped Grenadian prisoners were later charged with capital murder. Leave a watch aboard if possible and lock the boat and dinghy.
