Pigeon Island Anchorage (North Rodney Bay)

14° 5.3′ N · 60° 57.6′ W · approximate

The north corner of Rodney Bay tucked under Pigeon Island, with clear water, a small beach, the fort ruins above and Jambe de Bois for lunch. Charter fleets use it as the first or last night of a St Lucia loop.

Practical

Position derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline about 270 m off Pigeon Island Beach (approx). The Moorings describes anchoring only (no moorings), good holding in sand off the national park beach; give room to swimmers and day boats and arrive early in busy periods. Calmer than the south end of the bay in normal trades, but exposed to north and north-west ground swell. Land the dinghy at the Pigeon Island dinghy dock by Jambe de Bois (Noonsite). Pay the Pigeon Island park fee to the ranger if you go ashore (see Pigeon Island National Landmark). Same dinghy-theft precautions as the rest of Rodney Bay.

Best for

Quiet night under the fort with snorkelling off the beach

Season

Dec–May best; exposed to N/NW ground swell
