Mount Taboi Hike

12° 35.7′ N · 61° 26.6′ W

The 999 ft summit of Mount Taboi is the highest point in the Grenadines, with a spectacular view over all of Union, the Tobago Cays and Carriacou.

Practical

Summit position from OpenStreetMap; height from the tourism authority. Since the trails to Big Hill became part of the Union Island forest reserve you need a guide (maximum 5 people per guide) - call the Forestry Department or the Union Island Environmental Alliance, +1 784 457 8594 (Doyle update); guides can also take you up Taboi. The Howarths' route starts in Ashton (road opposite the Jehovah's Witness church, up the steps, behind a house), curves around Big Hill on a good path for about 30 minutes, then climbs steep meadow and an overgrown ridge with cacti to a rocky summit scramble: about 1.5 hours up, 30 minutes down. Wear real shoes and long trousers; carry plenty of water. From Chatham Bay, add about an hour each way to reach Ashton.
