Ashton Lagoon Restoration (SusGren)
12° 35.4′ N · 61° 26.0′ W
Ashton Lagoon, called the largest bay in the Grenadines, is a rare mangrove, seagrass and coral ecosystem being restored by Sustainable Grenadines (SusGren) after a failed marina project, with a bird-watching tower on the shore.
Practical
Position is the SusGren Bird Tower mapped in OpenStreetMap; the abandoned marina works are mapped at 12.5882, -61.4341. Free SusGren moorings in the lagoon (white, blue 'SusGren' markings, numbered) protect seagrass and coral - use them rather than anchoring. Shallow: approach by dinghy or shoal-draft only. Bring binoculars for herons and shorebirds around the mangroves.
Best for
Birding and a look at community-led reef and mangrove restoration
