Chatham Bay Anchorage

12° 36.1′ N · 61° 27.1′ W

A wide, quiet bay filling Union's whole west coast, ringed by steep hills, with sea turtles in the water and a handful of beach-shack restaurants ashore.

Practical

Position is Chatham Bay as mapped in OpenStreetMap; Doyle's approach waypoint is 0.25 nm west of the bay (12.6000, -61.4667). Anchor in sand off the beach; avoid the area under the cliff at the NW of the bay, now a dive site. Generally calm, but brief, intense gusts roll down the hills. Good snorkelling on the north and south sides. Not a port of entry: authorities require yachts to clear at Clifton and have fined boats that anchored here without clearing; Tenuta Resort at the south end can act as customs agent (EC$100, Doyle 2025). Dinghy theft has been reported; lock up. After Hurricane Beryl the beach bars were wiped out and are returning in makeshift form (Noonsite, May 2025).
