Mount Hartman Bay Anchorage

12° 0.0′ N · 61° 45.0′ W · approximate

Mount Hartman Bay is a reef-protected bay between Prickly Bay and Hog Island, ringed by hills, with Secret Harbour Marina on its west shore. It offers a calmer anchorage than Prickly and a close-knit cruising community in hurricane season.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap bay node (approx), checked to be in the water. Entry: there are two passes through the reefs. One is well buoyed and easy; the other should not be tried unless you have done it before. Do not enter at night (Noonsite). The quiet anchorage is in the north-east arm near the mangroves, with good holding. Pick your way through the many moorings. About 30 moorings are available to visitors, while the rest are private or abandoned. Ask the marina for recommended mooring operators, who also offer propane refills, water taxi and hull cleaning. Melon on the Go ranked it her favourite bay of 2019 for protection and community, though the walk out is a steep hill and buses do not reach the bay. A new boatyard opened here in 2025, taking catamarans up to 32 ft beam and 44 tons (Noonsite). Security: CSSN recorded four burglaries of unoccupied moored yachts in one night in August 2026 and another in September 2026. If you leave the boat for the summer, use a minder, lock every hatch and remove valuables.
