Japanese Gardens Dive (Goat Island)

11° 17.8′ N · 60° 31.1′ W · approximate

Tobago's most famous reef dive: a gentle drift down a steep slope off Goat Island, carpeted with tube, barrel and vase sponges and swarming with bicolor damselfish, angelfish and the occasional giant green moray.

Practical

Position is approximate, off the south tip of Goat Island at the mouth of Tyrrel's Bay, derived from the DAN description and the OpenStreetMap island outline; operators know the exact entry. DAN: 35-65 ft along a steep slope with a relatively slow drift. Kamikaze Cut, a fast drift through a cut between two large rocks, is another Speyside site (Discover Trinidad & Tobago). Dive with a Speyside operator; do not anchor a yacht on the reef.
