Angel Reef Snorkel (Goat Island, Speyside)

11° 18.1′ N · 60° 31.4′ W · approximate

A shallow reef by Goat Island off Speyside, reached by glass-bottom boat from Blue Waters Inn: old coral formations, big sponges, French and queen angelfish, and sometimes manta rays at the cleaning stations or nurse sharks.

Practical

Position is a point in the channel between Speyside and Goat Island (Goat Island per OpenStreetMap way 12183452), derived (approx); the boat operators know the exact spot. Snorkel Around the World describes a shallow reef with coral on the right side and boats leaving from Blue Waters Inn; a cruise-line listing describes a 2.5-hour glass-bottom trip from Speyside where the boat anchors on the reef for snorkelling, with visibility up to 100 ft. Go with a licensed Speyside glass-bottom operator (several wait at the Blue Waters Inn jetty): currents run hard around Goat Island and Little Tobago, and dive boats work the area. Do not take a yacht onto the reef. Many trips combine Angel Reef with Little Tobago's bird sanctuary.
