Îlet Chancel Lesser Antillean Iguanas (Le Robert)
14° 41.6′ N · 60° 53.3′ W
Martinique's largest islet shelters one of the last colonies of the critically threatened Lesser Antillean iguana, among the ruins of a sugar estate, lime kiln and pottery.
Practical
Position from French Wikipedia (2 km by 0.9 km). The islet is privately owned. Ask locally about visiting before landing. French Wikipedia cites about 600 iguanas in 2006 and fewer than 400 estimated in 2025, after rat predation on eggs and grazing by a large sheep herd that was present until 2025. Iguana delicatissima is in severe decline across its range (Wikipedia). Watch quietly, keep dogs aboard and never feed them. GlobeSailor's itinerary anchors off Chancel for the night, and Multihulls World visited the iguanas and the refinery ruins.
