Hurricane Season (Grenada's Grenadines)
12° 27.4′ N · 61° 29.3′ W · approximate
June to November brings tropical waves and the risk of hurricanes. Budget Marine once described Carriacou as 'right below the hurricane belt', yet the island took direct hits from Ivan in 2004 and Beryl in 2024.
Practical
Coordinate is Tyrrel Bay (approx). Wikipedia: Hurricane Ivan struck Carriacou on September 7, 2004, and Beryl made landfall on July 1, 2024, as a high-end Category 4. Dive Carriacou's visitor notes say hurricanes can occur between June and October but are rare in the Grenadines; Beryl showed that 'rare' is not 'never'. Options: haul out at Carriacou Marine or Tyrell Bay Marina (ask about tie-downs and cradles), move to Grenada's south-coast bays, or go to Trinidad (noforeignland advises being ready to move south if a significant system threatens). Carriacou Marine moves its monthly-mooring customers into the mangroves for each named storm for a US$100 fee. Check your insurer's named-storm rules. Monitor the NHC and local NaDMA bulletins.
