Hurricane Beryl Recovery (Union Island, 2024)

12° 35.8′ N · 61° 25.0′ W

Category 4-5 Hurricane Beryl struck on July 1, 2024 with its eye wall over Union, leaving more than 90 percent of buildings in the lower Grenadines uninhabitable; Clifton and Ashton have been the slowest to recover.

Practical

Position is the Hurricane Beryl memorial in Clifton (OpenStreetMap). As of 2025 (Noonsite, Doyle): many residents still in temporary shelters; roofs and debris remained a year on; customs moved to Bougainvilla; most marine services and several restaurants reopened; Chatham Bay bars rebuilding in makeshift form; Palm Island resort and Petit St Vincent resort closed. Arrive well provisioned with full water and gas, expect limited services, and consider bringing donations. Noonsite warns that pushy mooring vendors in Clifton may be more so with post-Beryl hardship; dinghy and petty theft were already common.
