Domaine de la Pagerie (Empress Joséphine Museum)

14° 31.9′ N · 61° 2.9′ W

The ruins of the La Pagerie sugar estate where Marie-Josèphe-Rose Tascher de La Pagerie, the future Empress Joséphine, was born in 1763 and grew up, with a small museum in the old kitchen building.

Practical

Position is the Musée de l'Impératrice Joséphine (OSM), next to the ruins of the sugar works. Wikipedia: the estate was a sugar plantation originally called Petite Guinée, then La Sannois, and is now the Musée de la Pagerie. Doyle Guides notes Joséphine grew up on a 200-acre estate run by 150 enslaved people near Trois-Îlets. About 2.5 km by road from the Trois-Îlets bourg; taxi or car from Anse Mitan. Check opening hours locally (none were given in our sources).
