Anse à l'Âne Anchorage
14° 32.6′ N · 61° 4.1′ W
A long beach of calm water lined with small hotels and beach restaurants, facing Îlet à Ramiers on the south shore of the Baie de Fort-de-France, with a ferry pier to the city.
Practical
ActiveCaptain: a US sailing directions note (2012) says a shoal of less than 1 m restricts the entrance, so local knowledge is advised; the bay is often disturbed by chop and NW swell. A 2022 review counted 36 sailboats at anchor, with a good dinghy dock and nice restaurants, but every 20 minutes the ferry's wake 'clears your table' twice (not at night). Noonsite (Feb 2025) lists the Anse à l'Âne dinghy dock among places where dinghies and outboards have been stolen, even chained ones, so lift and lock at night. A Carrefour Express and a Vito fuel station (road, jerry cans) are just behind the beach (OSM). Martinique tourism says the shuttle to Fort-de-France runs all day.
Best for
A sheltered, quieter alternative to Anse Mitan with ferry access to town
Season
Year-round; uncomfortable in NW swell
