Anse Mitan Anchorage
14° 33.2′ N · 61° 3.4′ W
A white-sand beach bay at the base of the Pointe du Bout peninsula, the tourist heart of Trois-Îlets, with the silhouette of Fort-de-France and the Pitons du Carbet across the bay and a ferry to the city every few minutes.
Practical
ActiveCaptain: anchor in about 3 m north of the dock, good holding over mostly sand, swinging room average to very good. Very crowded at weekends and holidays, rolly, and very unpleasant in a westerly swell. Approach from the west and avoid the Caye des Couillons shoal to the WNW and the shoal to the WSW. A 2022 reviewer touched bottom where the chart showed 4 m, finding less than 1.9 m at low tide (tide range under 20 cm), so trust the depth sounder, not the chart. Noonsite (Feb 2025) calls the holding excellent but warns of years of dinghy and outboard thefts here, at the Trois-Îlets and Anse à l'Âne docks and from yachts at anchor, including chain-locked dinghies cut free, plus daytime vandalism. Dinghy: the old Bakoua hotel pier is gone; ActiveCaptain mentions a small floating dock inside the hotel's small swimming bay and a small-boat pontoon in the NE of the bay. Restaurants, shops, car rental and laundry are a short walk away at Pointe du Bout (see the services entry).
Best for
A lively resort anchorage with easy clearance and a ferry to Fort-de-France
Season
